Getting Started with OpenSCAD
OpenSCAD is a FREE and Open Source tool for creating 3d Models. The 3d models you create with OpenSCAD can be uploaded and sold on CreateThis.com. Get paid to be creative! Learn OpenSCAD today.
First, you'll need to download and install OpenSCAD. Don't worry, it's free. Click here to download OpenSCAD.
Next, you need to learn how to use OpenSCAD. It's a little bit like playing with wooden blocks, except the blocks are inside your computer. Watch this video and try it out for yourself.
Finally, it's time to create something awesome. You may have an idea immediately, or it might take a while to think of something to create. Look around you. What do you think people will want to print? Maybe they want a new bracelet, or a pen, or a toy soldier. Maybe they want a replacement part so they don't waste money buying a new machine! This is where you get to be creative and show the world something new and exciting.
Remember, Desktop 3d Printing is still a new thing. Your ideas, today, have the ability to literally shape the future!
Build your model in OpenSCAD, then decide if you want to sell the STL file or the OpenSCAD Source Code file (SCAD). SCAD files are great because other designers can make changes easily. However, they cost a little more because they're easier to modify. STL files are great for end users: people who want to just print the part.
