I recently performed a lot of research regarding Lithophanes and how they are being created using 3d printing techniques. I thought I would dump those URLs here in case anyone was curious.

First, there is the ubiquitous MakerBot Lithophane customizer:

The quality of these lithophanes is good, but it's not great. Makerbot caters to a hobbyist market, and quality is hobbyist quality. The advantage is that it's quick. You're in, you're out, you're on with life. The only catch is that you need a 3d Printer.

Finally, if you're comfortable with Processing, have access to a professional quality 3d Printer, and have more time on your hands than sense, there's this:

I'd really love to try one of the lithophanes from the instructable link above. As with many Processing projects, you need a dozen gigabytes of RAM to successfully run the script, but the results look incredible.
